This resolution calls for support from women legislators in enacting state laws that encourage a competitive insurance marketplace through the modernization of state-sponsored pricing regulation and implementation of market-based pricing.
The NFWL Committees on Intergovernmental & Intertribal Policy and Crime, Justice, Terrorism, and Substance Abuse do hereby request the Congress of the United States to ensure adequate prosecution of criminal activity in Indian country by enacting a technical amendment to the Pueblo Lands Act so as to clarify the jurisdiction over offenses committed anywhere within the exterior boundaries of New Mexico Pueblos.
This resolution cites several statistics which outline the problems with prison substance abuse programs and lays out six steps to increase accountability in prison systems.
NFWL's Intergovernmental Policy Committee supports the 2005 Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, to include enhancements for American Indian and Alaska Native Women to prevent battering, rape and stalking of Native Women; for the handling of
these crimes by the Indian Tribes; and availability of program funding to
Indian Tribes.
The undersigned, as members of the NFWL Special Education Subcommittee, in a bi-partisan effort and on behalf of the entire National Foundation for Women Legislators, urge the Senate to pass the Child Medication Safety Act of 2003 (S. 1390) and send it to the President for his signature.
The National Foundation for Women Legislators' Education Policy Committee respectfully request that Congress pass legislation that states that no financial penalties shall be imposed on so-called "failing" schools under the No Child Left Behind Act unless and until such time as Congress fully funds the Act and appropriates the fully authorized amount of $18.5 billion.
The Joint Full Committees on Crime, Justice, Terrorism and Substance Abuse and Inter-Governmental and Intertribal Affairs, recommends the Nomination and the Confirmation of a Native American to serve on the United States District Court of any appropriate state and that a Native American be considered for any other Judiciary appointments not mentioned in this resolution.
