Current Programs
Europe
The Foundation is currently working to send state legislators and Members of Congress to Spain in an effort to assist Spanish legislators in developing an organization for women legislators similar to NFWL. A cross-cultural conference will be held in order to encourage leadership development and mentoring between Spanish and American legislators.
Latin America
We are developing a program that would enable legislators and corporations from Agricultural industries within the United States to work in cooperation with emerging Agri-business ventures in Latin America. Through a strategic alliance with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA), NFWL believes that we will be able to educate policy-makers at home and abroad as to what steps must be taken to ensure successful Agro-Business endeavors.
Africa
NFWL continues to work on promoting cultural awareness when approaching HIV/AIDS health care and prevention in Africa. Policy Committee meetings as well as a future trip to the continent are among our many upcoming international programs.
Past Programs
As part of its last international program, NFWL invited both women elected officials and private industry leaders to participate on a trade mission to Honduras with the objective of establishing trade linkages between agribusinesses in the United States and Honduras. This mission provided an excellent opportunity for U.S. agribusiness and Honduran enterprises to discuss joint ventures, while affording the legislators and state Secretaries of Agriculture the opportunity to meet and discuss issues with their counterparts including the Honduran Minister of Agriculture and the President of the Republic.
NFWL has also traveled to Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, and the Czech Republic to promote economic and democratic relationships with the United States.
