NFWL is pleased to offer a movie night toolkit for the documentary film Miss Representation, in partnership with The Representation Project.
Written, directed and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation is a documentary film that exposes how mainstream media and culture contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film advocates that we all use our voice, eyeballs, and wallets to build a society that better represents us all.
Miss Representation first premiered in the documentary competition at the Sundance Film Festival where it caught the eye of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. It made its television debut as part of the OWN documentary film club in October 2011, with over 1.4 million people tuning in. Tens of thousands more are seeing the film for the first time in classrooms, at places of worship, businesses, and community events. Your Miss Representation movie night should include five or more girls, whether it be at your district office, at a local school, or a separate venue. However you do it, we’re here to help.
