State Rep. Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates) was recently selected to serve on the 2017 National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) Policy Committee. NFWL is the nation’s oldest non-partisan organization addressing the needs of elected women at the city, county and state levels of government.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve on NFWL’s 2017 Policy Committee with other elected women from across the country,” said Drenner. “Women are vastly underrepresented in elected bodies throughout all levels of government, and the work NFWL does to bring together and empower elected women is crucial for creating more diverse and inclusive elected bodies. I look forward to continuing to support NFWL’s mission in this leadership role.”

As a member of the Policy Committee, Rep. Drenner will contribute to all committee business by developing educational programs on policy issues, engaging with policy partners and recommending NFWL areas of policy focus. The 2017 Policy Committee will play an integral role in the launch and maintenance of NFWL’s newest emphasis, shared legislation, by encouraging elected women to exchange legislative ideas.

Elected women across the country will gather in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for NFWL’s Annual Conference Nov. 14-18 to identify effective solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing issues. By providing a non-partisan environment that encourages open dialogue, women leaders will be able to build coalitions, share their constituents’ concerns and craft solutions to important issues facing their communities.

“We are so honored Rep. Drenner has accepted a leadership position in our foundation,” said Minnesota State Senator Carrie Ruud, NFWL’s 2017 Chair. “She will play a crucial role in the continued success of NFWL as we embark on our most exciting year yet.”

Drenner begins serving in her new position immediately and will hold this office through the end of 2017.

Through annual educational and networking events, the National Foundation for Women Legislators supports elected women from all levels of governance. As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, NFWL does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
