The 20th annual National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest is accepting submissions through Friday.

Six students will receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to NFWL’s annual conference Nov. 14–18 in Minneapolis, where students will learn from U.S. women lawmakers.

High school juniors (class of 2018) and seniors (class of 2017) who will attend college are eligible to apply. They must submit a 400–600 word essay on one of three topics along with an application and two letters of recommendation — one from an elected woman in their state.

Submissions must be turned in online by 4 p.m. Friday.

Bellevue State Sen. Carol Blood is urging Nebraska students to apply.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the young female leaders in our communities to shine,” Blood said in a news release.
