Our democracy depends on our leaders being able to disagree without being disagreeable. Unfortunately, this integral feature of our society seems to be in decline.

We thank Rep. Gayle Harrell for taking part in the State Director Leadership Summit, a conference hosted by the National Foundation for Women Legislators, that focused on the importance of civility in politics.

As politicians at all levels seem to become more polarized and partisan, it is vital that our representatives are able to bridge political divides and reach out to their colleagues across the aisle.

We are hopeful that Rep. Harrell will set an example for her colleagues in Stuart of the importance of civil discourse.
