The National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL), an organization dedicated to the needs of elected women in government, has appointed state Sen. Judy Emmons (R-Sheridan) as director of its Michigan operations.

The position, which has begun immediately, will be held until the end of this year. Emmons will oversee collaboration with other elected women in the state to grant them access to NFWL resources and will, herself, have access to leadership training resources offered by the organization. Primarily, though, the NFWL is a nonprofit focused on being a forum for its legislators.

“It is an honor to serve in leadership for an outstanding organization dedicated to finding new and innovative solutions to real-world, everyday problems,” Emmons said. “As more women enter public service, I will work to make sure they have the support, knowledge and resources to be successful.”

The organization provides annual educational and networking events. Its next conference takes place in Washington, D.C. between Nov. 13 and 17, wherein attendees will identify solutions for certain issues confronting the nation.

“We are so proud Judy Emmons has accepted a leadership position in our foundation,” NFWL Executive Director Jody Thomas said. “NFWL’s emphasis for 2018 is leadership, and Judy exemplifies this theme. She will play a key role in aiding elected women in Michigan as we continue to grow as an organization.”
