Lorraine Hatcher, Riverside’s new mayor, was among 34 women honored by the National Foundation for Women Legislators, based in Alexandria, Virginia, at its 2017 Elected Women of Excellence Awards ceremony on Nov. 14 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The award was established in 2013 as part of the foundation’s 75th anniversary celebration to honor the hard work and dedication of female leaders from across the country.

The winners were nominated by their colleagues and constituents from their home states and then chosen by a distinguished panel of foundation members.

The National Foundation for Women Legislators supports elected women from all levels of governance. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for female legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
