Springfield Women’s Commission set to honor Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Denise Hurst and Kateri Walsh

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Women’s Commission will honor three women including Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, at its annual celebration and reception on Friday, being conducted at Western New England University.

The free event, which is part of the annual Women’s Day Celebration, honors women selected for their leadership and service.

The recipients to be honored are: Polito, Springfield School Committee member Denise Hurst, who serves as  Massachusetts Commissioner for the  Status of Women; and City Council Vice-President Kateri Walsh, who is chairwoman of the Springfield Women’s Commission and recipient of the NFWL Woman of Excellence Award.

The event is being co-sponsored this year by the League of Women Voters/Springfield and the National Foundation for Women Legislators which has dedicated this month to honoring women in Public Service.

“There is no better time to celebrate the accomplishments and selfless service of elected women” said Ward 2 Secretary and Springfield Women’s Commissioner Ann Shields. “These women represent the best in dedicated public service and inspire women and young girls to follow their lead”.

The reception will be held at Western New England University on Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Blake Law Center.
