For a few days this February, Republicans and Democrats from across the country gathered in Florida to discuss critical issues surrounding criminal justice reform. The Advancing Justice summit brought together the National Conference of State Legislators in partnership with Americans for Prosperity, the National Foundation for Women Legislators, the American Legislative Exchange Council, the National Asian Pacific American Caucus of State Legislatures, the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, with support from Stand Together, for this historic event.
Attendees were able to learn how legislators and state and federal officials are teaming up with local nonprofits, business leaders, educational institutions and other stakeholders to reduce recidivism and build up their communities; explore criminal justice reform policy options and develop state-specific strategies to build consensus around a balanced justice system; and connect with peers, policy experts and community stakeholders.
