Microsoft Hour of Code

Hidden Figures Viewing and Coding Party

NFWL was excited to partner with Google’s Made with Code throughout 2017 to offer a toolkit to plan and host a Hidden Figures Viewing and Coding Party for teen girls (13-18). Hidden Figures is the true story of three female, African-American NASA mathematicians — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) — and their decisive contributions to the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

Google’s Made with Code initiative launched in June 2014 to inspire millions of teen girls to learn to code, and to help them see coding as a means to pursue their dream careers. Google’s research shows this is a perception problem more than anything — girls don’t see coding as interesting or relevant to their passions, they don’t think they’ll be good at it and they don’t see other girls and women doing it. We want to show girls that coding is fast becoming the new literacy and increasingly part of every industry.

Download the following materials to host an event, and check out Google Made with Code for their new and always changing opportunities.
