The Annual Conference encourages the building of connections among elected women, industry leaders, and issue experts. We create a safe environment for sharing ideas, discussing current events, and learning about new initiatives and programs through plenary sessions, workshops, roundtables, and policy committees.  

 

 



 

The 2018 Annual Conference will cover a wide variety of issues, and feature over 100 elected women from both sides of the aisle across the country. We’ll look at healthcare topics including cost savings and rare diseases, K-12 education, critical infrastructure, occupational licensing, energy, telecommunications, civil discourse, leadership development, and more.

The Importance of Women Owned Businesses & Supplier Diversity Programs: A Supplier Diversity program is a proactive business program which encourages the use of minority-owned, women owned, veteran owned, LGBT-owned, service disabled veteran owned, and historically underutilized businesses as suppliers. This session will showcase the importance of these initiatives, and how corporations are working to better support women-owned and minority-owned businesses.

 

 

 

Collaboration Benefits the Patient: Plans, Manufacturers and Patients Share Their Thoughts: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of pricing in the context of the entire supply chain and all stakeholders involved, including health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacies.

Tackling Your State’s Payday Loan Problem Lessons from Ohio’s Bipartisan Fix: In 2018, Ohio passed breakthrough bipartisan payday loan reform to protect the budgets of hardworking consumers while maintaining widespread access to credit. The new law promises to save borrowers, who are typically women, $75 million each year. Experts from The Pew Charitable Trusts consumer finance team will break down the key components of Ohio’s Fairness in Lending Act to distill lessons for other states interested in balancing the interests of borrowers and responsible lenders

 

 

 

Innovation in Telecommunications: 5G is seen as the foundational technology for areas like self-driving cars and streaming virtual reality, and it starts with expansion. This session will look at the current expansion of 5G, and how 5G will bring faster speeds, superior responsiveness and better coverage.

Put your media training to the test! Join Safe America Foundation to film a PSA. We do all the editing magic, so following the conference you will receive a ready-to-go link to your PSA. This is an excellent opportunity to film a piece on a timely subject and become a leader on the issue.

Our Women of Excellence reception Tuesday night is at the top of the Newseum, offering breath-taking views of the Capitol, and the Embassy of Ghana is hosting us for a reception Wednesday night.  Thursday’s late-night party is a Heineken Happy Hour, complete with beer, hard cider, soft drinks and fun games to play.  Friday is the elegant Installation Dinner and Dance, so you won’t want to miss a thing!

NFWL is proud to announce that Washington, DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser is NFWL’s Honorary Conference Chair. The Mayor is committed to making sure every Washingtonian gets a fair shot, including its most vulnerable residents.  In everything she does, the Mayor puts District residents first, and ensures that the city’s priorities match the peoples’ priorities.  She is slated to speak at noon on Wednesday, November 14, so don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear from the leader of America’s most powerful city!

LAST DAY to Provide Insight: NFWL Bylaws

 

 

 

It is the policy of the National Foundation for Women Legislators that any provisions of the current bylaws may be altered, amended, or repealed with a two-thirds vote of the NFWL General Membership at the Annual Meeting (Nov. 13 in Washington, D.C.)

The Bylaws Committee requests all elected women members of NFWL review the current bylaws and submit any suggested changes to tripp@womenlegislators.org by TODAY!

Announcing: Student Scholarship Winners

 

 

 

Scholarship Celebration: Six outstanding young women who are winners of the 21st Annual Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest will be recognized for their perspectives on women’s expanding role in government, as sponsored by the NRA Foundation. In a panel discussion, they will share the content of their essays and further explore how their personal experiences relate to the essay prompts.
